UNIZIK students protest as armed robbers kill a 200L student over SIM card
Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Anambra State, on Monday, January 9, staged a protest over the killing of their colleague by armed robbers.
It was gathered that the 200L student of the department of Philosophy, identified simply as Daniel, was reportedly shot dead by armed robbers while trying to recover his phone from them in his Ifite-Awka lodge.
According to reports, Daniel lost his life on Sunday evening, January 8, while trying to collect his SIM card from the armed robbers that came to raid his lodge.
Nigerian Tribune reports that after giving his phone to the armed robb£rs, Daniel requested for his Sim card which the robbers agreed to give to him. Holding an already set gun and struggling to remove a phone on a tight pack to give Daniel’s Sim to him resulted in the mistake pull of the trigger.
During the process, he was shot in his stomach. He was quickly rushed to the hospital, but sadly gave up the ghost due to the excess loss of blood.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said: “I got this unfortunate information from the Unizik SUG president, yesternight. Police patrol has been on since then. I urge the witness of the incident to help us with information to investigate, please.”
The students who lamented the incessant robbery attacks on them took to the street to protest as they demand for justice for their colleague.
